Animal names: identify and sort from A to Z

In the Names challenge, the common-name answer is hidden. Recognize the animal from its image, use the scientific name as a clue, then decide where its common name belongs alphabetically.

The same eight animal IDs are shared across Spanish and English, but each language freezes its own common names and uses locale-aware collation.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Names challenge work?

The active card shows the image, the “¿ ?” placeholder and the scientific name. Infer the common name and place the card among revealed cards from A to Z. A correct placement reveals the common name and adds it to the line.

Why is the scientific name shown?

In Normal mode it acts as a stable clue. It can confirm the genus or species and makes the challenge depend less on tiny visual details in the illustration.

How are accents and ñ sorted?

Collation is locale-aware. In Spanish, ñ keeps its own position after n, while written accents do not create a separate alphabetic letter. Candidate challenges with collation ties are rejected.

Why are some animals disabled in Names?

Recognizing an animal does not always produce one predictable common name. If reasonable aliases would start with different letters, or the image cannot support the required level of identification, that card can be disabled for this mode.

Can the order change between Spanish and English?

Yes. The same species may have very different common names in each language. Cardsimals keeps the same challenge animal IDs but freezes localized names and compares them using the language of the attempt.

Does changing language alter a game I already started?

No. Language is part of the Names attempt state. A started game or replay keeps the locale it opened with so the solution cannot change midway through the challenge.
